Acrylic is a transparent thermoplastic often used in sheet form as a lightweight or shatter-resistant alternative to glass. Acrylic Plexiglass is a strong, tough, and lightweight material. It has a density half that of glass. It has good impact strength, higher than both glass and polystyrene. Acrylic Plexiglass transmits up to 92% of visible light (3 mm thickness). It filters ultraviolet similar to ordinary window glass.  Common uses of Acrylic Plexiglass are rear-lights and instrument clusters for vehicles, appliances, and lenses for glasses.
