Bosei is an original painting in Sumi-e ink style. It is NOT framed. I painted this in a meditative mind allowing my subconscious mind and brush to paint purely from inspiration. For me it has a maternal energy; however, it is meant to be open and abstract enough to allow the viewer to see whatever it means to them. For this reason, I stamped my hanko (artist signature) 4 times, once in each direction. This allows the sale painting to be displayed 4 different ways without ever being upside down or sideways! They are in Japanese kanji to honor my heritage, as I am half Japanese. My grandmother was a painter who lived in the Monterey Bay area of California. Her grandfather was a Buddhist healer in Japan.

This is a good-sized painting at 23"x15.5". It is Chinese ink on delicate vintage double shuen rice paper. This paper itself has a lot of character. I then wet mount it on a second sheet of the same kind of paper. I use a flour, water and alum combination to wet mount, which brings the color and vibrancy of the ink out. I also left a border of the excess backing paper, for extra protection of the original painting. You may trim it off or fold it, before framing.

I will ship it in a tube, unless you request it shipped flat. I feel there is more protection from damage in a tube. However if you are not framing it, you might want to place the painting under some heavy books overnight to flatten possible curves from being rolled. I carefully wrap paintings in bubble wrap before rolling and shipping. Please contact me if you have any further questions.
