A quality, old, hand made Batik from Pekalongan in Central Java. Tulis is the Indonesian word used to describe a batik that is totally handmade by "kanting" (pouring) the wax onto the material. It is not made by stamp or by mechanically printing onto the material. This is the traditional and most labour intensive way of making a batik.
Pekalongan is a famous batik centre on the north coast of Java where the Chinese first introduced synthetic dyes and floral motifs. This batik has a green background with a floral and pheasant design in brown, blue and cream. It is in good condition on good soft cotton, but has three or four pinholes and one small area that has four one centimeter tears. See photos..
