A very pretty little French purse that dates to the 1860 period. This small purse was made using the tatting technique in red silk with tiny gilt beads in between each tatted ring. This small purse is of 'finger ring' design.
Finger ring purses were popular from the end of the 19th century on wards. The design had two decorative top bars to which a chain with a ring at the end was attached. The ring slips over the bars to secure and stop your coins escaping from the purse body. Highly decorative, but patience needed to extract your coins.
This Victorian version has such pretty gilt brass filigree balls to each end of the top bars. The twisted design finger ring is exceedingly pretty. There is a nice weight to this beauty because each tatted silk ring has a metal circular washer inside to aid structure and balance weight.
Size: 3 1/2 inch high by 2 1/4 at its widest point (9 cm by 6 cm)
Condition: Good original condition. Minor dulling to the uncleaned metal furniture. One sale top silk loop where it joins the top bar, now broken. Minor fading to the red silk tatted body.
A super sweet example for your collection.
