With beginnings around 1750, Royal Crown Derby is one of the most iconic British porcelain manufacturers. In 1750, Huguenot, Andrew Planche established the first china works in Derby sale creating exquisite china figurines. A link up with William Duesbury led to a very successful partnership manufacturing high quality china. King George III recognized the uniqueness of Derby porcelain in 1775, allowing the factory to incorporate a crown in the backstamp. In 1890 Queen Victoria awarded a royal warrant and the company became "The Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Company" from then on.
