This is a set of 5 Early American Pressed Glass clear top / frosted base berry bowls featuring the famous Gillinder “lion” pattern.

These are wonderful examples of early pressed glass that feature “frosted” glass, a popular technique of the era. The lions on the base are created using an acid etched or acid washed method that was a signature of sale the gaslight era.

The technique was popular during the era appearing in homes on mirrors, windows, gaslights and oil lampshades, as well as tableware and decorative glass. Frosted glass was all the rage throughout the last quarter of the 19th century and this is an early example of the technique.

This is a wonderful set that can grace your breakfast or dinner table, or look stunning in your curio cabinet!
