These sale antique garnets are often collectively called Bohemian, however the garnets mined is Bohemia are actually pyropes or pyrope garnets. Bohemian garnets are of bright red color and are usually very small. The larger antique garnets which were used in the Dutch Klederdracht jewelry were mined in other European countries, Austria and Italy, to name a few. These garnets were distinguished by its very dark red color, which was resulting from the high content of iron in the mineral structure.
