Framed Giant Leaf Insect - Malaysia
A beautiful and huge female specimen of the world's biggest leaf-insect, from the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia. This is the first time I have offered this species. It's hard to convey how well the camouflage mimics a real leaf, right down to the slightly chewed-looking and brown edges! sale Specimen captive raised in Malaysia.
As with all my listings, the specimen in the photos is the one that you will get.
The Andaman redwood frame is 26 x 21 cm (10.5 x 8.5 in approx), and has info about the species on the back. Andaman redwood, also known as New Guinea rosewood, though it is not a true rosewood, is one of the most beautiful and richly grained timbers in the world.
Many hours goes into the preparation of each of my framed specimens. All my frames are hand made from natural timber, and custom sized for each specimen or set. I do not use pre-made commercial frames, or cheap black painted "shadow boxes".
My Minibeast framing began in 1996 in Christchurch, New Zealand, where I sold them at the Art Centre market for 12 years. Though I am now otherwise employed and live in Australia, I have never lost my passion for this hobby and am now finding time to prepare a few specimens in my home workshop.
I firmly believe that these are the finest quality framed insects you'll see anywhere in the world. I really hope you like them as much as I do!
