Hinchcliffe was a graphic designer for some 40 years, which sale proved to be very good grounding in the handling of pencils and paint brushes. He began by painting watercolors, mainly birds, in great detail but after a number of years was introduced to painting “wet on wet”. This is an extremely skilled form of watercolor painting, where the medium can be very temperamental and any mistakes cannot be later rectified; the artist must simply start the work again.
Hinchcliffe took to this method very quickly. He has exhibited his work at the Mall Galleries in London as well as several galleries in the UK home counties. Many of his paintings are held in private collections.
The artist now lives in France where he continues to receive many commissions for painting portraits of holiday homes and landscapes of France.
