Collecting Vintage Posters
Vintage lithographic exhibition posters have become collectible works of art in their own right. They are highly collectible fine art prints as they are designed and created especially for the occasion. 20th century Artists were very aware that these creations had to reach the widest audiences and so spent a lot of their energy and time on their design and quality.

COLLECTIBLE VINTAGE WOODCUTS
An original fine art woodcut is not just a cheap mass produced print. The process is far more complicated and therefore valuable and collectible. Woodcut is an ancient artistic technique in printmaking in which an
image is carved into the surface of a block of wood, with the printing parts remaining level with the surface while the non-printing parts are removed, typically with gouges. This is known as relief printing. The areas to show ‘white' are cut away with a knife or chisel, leaving the characters or image to show in ‘black' at the original surface level. The block is cut along the grain of the wood (unlike wood engraving where the block is cut in the end-grain). The surface is covered with ink by rolling over the surface with an ink-covered roller (brayer), leaving ink upon the flat surface but not in the non-printing areas. The process of printmaking requires a balance of creativity and skill using traditional techniques. It's the amount of impressions ‘pulled' from each ‘plate' or wood block that gives each print its scarcity. Because of the unique history of sale each item, collectible prints
often appreciate in value over time due to their rarity and age. This makes them an excellent investment!

Please note that the photos do not do the Artwork justice, as it much nicer in real life! Please do not hesitate to mail me for more photos or descriptions as required. Also note that these Prints are Vintage and so they are not brand new.
By their nature there may be signs of handling or in some cases slight foxing.
