Stunning Antique Cotton Victorian/Edwardian Dress, 1900s White Cotton Lawn Afternoon Tea sale Dress, Size XS, Vintage Lingerie Dress
This is an exceptional white cotton Victorian/Edwardian afternoon tea dress. It is made of beautiful sheer white fine cotton lawn giving it an almost ethereal look. It has a lacy high neckline with an floral net inset yoke outlined with ruffled lace. The bodice is bloused with pintucks and lace insertion. The sleeves are long, puffed with a lace inserted hankerchief overlay, and 5 inch lace cuffs. A two inch lace waistband gives way to a pintucked skirt with vertical rows of lace insertion and a 14 inch pointed and pleated flounce.
This is an extraordinary dress in excellent condition for its age. Most of the lace (and there is so much of it) appears to all be intact with only tiny holes here and there due to its age and its delicate nature. The net yoke and lace collar are really in good shape, but there are a few tiny holes in the back. It has a tiny, less than 1/4 inch hole in the front skirt which falls within a pleat, could be easily mended, and is not that noticeable with a slip sale or petticoat beneath it. There is an area on the back skirt that also has another 1/4 inch tear and three tiny dot discolorations, which may wash out, as highlighted in the last photo. These are so unnoticeable that I almost missed them. There are a few pin holes in various places, especially on the back of the sleeve, again not that noticiable. The back has tiny mother of pearl buttons starting underneath the net yoke, extending to the waistline. I believe there may have been hooks and eyes which are missing but easily added to the waist band and placket area. I do not know how the yoke and collar fastened,(please see the second to the last photo). The dress is very small and would not close upon my dress form, probably an extra, extra small. Antique dresses are never perfect, but the flaws in this dress are minimal, pin holes are tiny, and with undergarments would probably be unnoticeable. It is totally wearable for an historical affair or event (if you are tiny enough) and absolutely displayable!
