Stunning silver rings from the Arab Peninsula! Some of these have been worn for a lifetime.
The cracked turquoise in the wide banded ring to the right speaks of a long life (as does the soft wear on the ring itself), and the worn silver around the red glass bead and the dark carnelian of the two rings on the left say the same.
On the other hand, the ring in front with all its bells still has clean and sharp filigree decoration on its shoulder. It only shows signs of wear on its lower band. Add to that the large size of the ring, and this sale might indicate the ring was not worn on the finger: the women of the Yam tribe in Saudi Arabia threaded rings like these on the woollen cords around their headdress.
The ring with the banded agate is one of my favourites: with its three silver dots on top of a thin layer of brown it looks almost good enough to eat!
