This is a unique French artisan piece. It has a back plate that is made in the shape of shield giving it a medieval feel, and would not look out of place in a castle. The wrought iron scroll work is very rigid and solid, but the shaped shield is made from a lighter gauge steel making this more decorative than an item for rugged, or rough service. I think when the blacksmith made the item he chose style over functionality, and made a totally unique one off item. The item is still very usable and looks wonderful!

There are three holes to fix the hook to a wall.

Condition:
The hook is in very good vintage condition, but there is some movement between the shield and the wrought iron coat pegs. It has been cleaned up and there are small traces of the former rust and patina. There are some signs of age and wear, as would be expected. Please look closely at the photos.
