Holy Martyr Dimitar of Thessaloniki was born in the 3rd century in Thessaloniki. Emperor Maximian appointed Dimitar to a high military post with the order to persecute Christians. Baptized as a child and a Christian himself, Dimitar instead patronized and protected Christians, encouraged the spread of Christ's faith.
However, the emperor found out about this and, returning from a campaign, stopped in Thessaloniki and asked Dimitar to renounce sale Christianity. Despite the insistence, nothing could persuade the young warrior, and he was thrown into prison as punishment. The famous fighter Lee challenged the convicts to a duel and threw them into the abyss on spears driven upwards. Dimitar's weapon bearer, Nestor, asked permission from his master to compete with Lee and managed to defeat him by throwing him into the abyss. The angry emperor ordered Nestor to be beheaded, and Dimitar was stabbed. The notes later discovered indicate the date of 26 October 306.
