Antique Bookend Boy with Books Chalkware sale Figurine 11.25”

This is a very cute antique bookend made in the form of a boy holding books under his arms. At first I thought that he was a schoolboy, but now I think that he's meant to be a bookbinding apprentice. He is made of chalkware type plaster but with a smooth exterior, almost like Ivorex but whiter. He measures 11 1/4” in height and is in very good condition except for a small brown spot on the front of his tunic and some wear to the black paint on his base. There are no chips or cracks, he just needs a bit of a cleaning. I believe that he dates to circa 1910. This is a wonderful display piece, even if you don't use him as a bookend….
