This gorgeous formal nagoya obi is made of pale blue silk and metallic threads with a woven pattern of plum blossoms and ducks swimming in a pond. A perfect obi for spring!
Nagoya obi (名古屋帯) are one of the most common and convenient styles today, which are perfect for creating the classic "taiko" knot which is shaped like a drum. They were first produced in the city of Nagoya in the 1920s, and are distinctive for the fact that the portion which wraps around the waist is folded and stitched in half partway down, allowing for easier dressing. The wider part is then what forms the "drum" shape in the back of the body.
