Peter and sale Paul the Apostles, original handpainted icon on canvas - 7 1/2 inches square

Both Saint Peter and Sant Paul were remarkable men responsible for spreading Christianity throughout the world, but both had pretty rough beginnings. St. Paul (known initially as Saul) was actually responsible for persecuting the Christians until a significant event occurred on the Road to Damascus: He received the Holy Spirit and then proclaimed that Jesus is the Son of God. The sale fame of these two Apostles of the Catholic Church exceeds that of all other saints. They are true heroes of our Faith! Peter was given the keys of the Kingdom of heaven and the power of binding and loosing, as well as universal jurisdiction as the visible earthly head of the Mystical Body of Christ. And Paul because of his great missionary and preaching efforts, and whose inspired working drew countless numbers to be converted and follow after Christ. Both of them were absorbed in their love for Christ and His Church and their readiness to offer the supreme sacrifice of self in union with Our Lord's own saving sacrifice has won for them the greatest dignities of heaven and earth.
Their feast day is celebrated on the 29th of June.

ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE:
I painted the icon on gallery wrapped canvas. I used water based paint (tempera) for the figures and a gold leaf for the halos of the Saints. The image is well sealed with a couple of transparent varnish layers so that the colors are crispier and also to allow the icon to be cleaned from dust easily. The back of the icon is varnished in darker tone. There is metal ring on top for easy hanging.

The size of the icon is 7 1/2 inches wide/tall (19.5cm square)
